Comfort Zone

Comfort Zone

A comfort zone can be defined as a psychological state in which things from the environment are close and familiar to a person and under their control, enabling low level of stress and anxiety. Another definition defines the comfort zone as a state in which a person functions without anxiety.

In today's society, it is hard to imagine anyone functioning without anxiety but despite this, I would dare to say that comfort zones are more common than we think. This reminds me of a story.

Two men were sitting in a train compartment. One would get up at every stop, look out the window uneasily, mumble something, sit back down and sigh mournfully.

After a few stations, the other could not stand it anymore.

"Something is wrong? You look worried to me, and you get up at every stop," he said.

"Honestly, I'm on the wrong train and going in the wrong direction, but it's so cosy and warm here," the second man responded.

This story cruelly reminds us that a comfort zone is a beautiful place without living conditions. Leaving that place means consciously going to another place where stress lives. If we decide to focus only on that stress, we will miss the opportunities that also live at that place. However, if we know that life begins where the comfort zone ends, we will seize these opportunities and thus ensure change.

Life in the comfort zone is part of daily being. It manifests itself in avoiding the obligations that we need to fulfill, postponing them for tomorrow, delegating our commitments to others, ignoring messages, and avoiding calls.

At the same time, we comfort ourselves in various excuses that we can come up with. But have we ever wondered where it leads us?

Maybe we have, but even thinking about it causes us stress, so it's better to avoid it. That's why, instead of thinking about where life in the comfort zone leads us, we should just imagine the end of the journey in that comfort zone through testimony from another story.

As a young and rebellious person, I prayed for the strength to change the world. When I got a little older and realised that the world had not changed, I pulled myself together and prayed for the strength to change my family. Later, I prayed for the strength to change myself because I realised that by praying and doing nothing, I wasted most of my life.

In conclusion, the world will start to change when we move from our comfort zone to the zone of our dreams. So, is there a better moment than now to look around ourselves and get out of our compartment or even the train?
