Help us match you to the right mental health professional. Please read carefully further information below and accept if you agree. You have selected: Children and adolescents sessions.

The services we provide are counselling and psychotherapy and creative art therapy services. MyMind does not provide assessments or reports. The full rate (€50) applies to children and adolescents sessions at MyMind. Sessions for children and adolescents are exclusively face to face.

Child and Adolescents sessions - First appointment: For children under the age of 13, the first appointment takes place with the parent(s) or guardian(s) by themselves. This allows them to explain to the mental health professional why they’re looking to bring their child in for an appointment, and learn more about what the appointments will look like. For adolescents over the age of 13 and under the age of 16, their parent(s) or guardian(s) need to attend the first appointment to sign a consent form for the adolescent to attend sessions. The parent(s) or guardian(s) will need to stay in the building for the duration of the appointment. The mental health professional will discuss with the adolescent and their parent(s) or guardian(s) how future appointments will proceed.

For parents of 16-17 year olds who are in secondary school and wish to avail of benefit rate session, this is not possible. If under 18 years old, appointments will be booked under child/adolescent rate with parental consent needed.

Individual Counselling

Individual counselling sessions last 50mins. You will be seen face to face, or online (your choice) by a therapist that you have chosen or had recommended to you. Therapy is a space where you can discuss your feelings on a variety of matters. Your therapist will have a psychology or a psychotherapy background.

Counselling for my child

Child and adolescent sessions last 50 minutes. They are specifically for a child up to 16 years old that is experiencing emotional difficulties. The therapist will have an initial meeting with the parent or guardian. The parameters for the work will be discussed fully at this meeting. After this initial meeting, sessions will be between the child and the therapist. The therapist will have additional training in working with children and adolescents.

Couples Counselling

Couples sessions last 50 mins. You and your partner will meet the therapist that you have chosen to work with face to face. The therapist will work with you to overcome the emotional difficulties that you choose to bring to the session. As a couple, you will set the agenda and the time frame for the work, along with your therapist. Your therapist will have an additional training in couples work.

Counselling for my family

Families can be a source of support, encouragement and love but sometimes relationships within families are put under strain and family members feel isolated or overlooked. Family counselling can help when siblings aren’t getting on, or when parents and children are going through a divorce or separation. Forming a new family is a challenge and it is at this point that many parents contact MyMind for some support to help everyone settle.

Your gender

We ask your gender in order to build an outline, prior to the initial session, of the client that our therapist will meet.

Therapeutic Support

Knowing what level of understanding a new client has of therapy is useful to a therapist prior to beginning work. Clients who have never been to therapy before, or who have only experienced one or two sessions will need a small amount of further information at the beginning of their opening session. A client who has more experience with therapy will have different needs upon meeting their new therapist.
Please note that collected details will be saved after the registration only
