Approaches: Psychoanalysis
Mark Twomey is a post-graduate qualified psychoanalyst and psychotherapist (UCD) and a member of APPI. He holds a higher diploma and Masters degree in psychoanalytic psychotherapy to first class honours level.
This treatment effects change through regular weekly sessions, in which the relationship between analyst and client supports a therapeutic discourse. During treatment, the client develops insight and self-awareness, integrating those past events that may have been traumatic or unsayable into a coherent narrative. Supported by the relationship to the therapist/analyst, the individual can scrutinize the stress and suffering in their lives within the context of their life-history: where it originates, how it is manifested and what coping behaviours have evolved to deal with it.
