About me:
Eli Guruceaga is a fully qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist (Ba Hons. Middlesex University in collaboration with PCI College) and a fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (IACP) and in 2023 she has joined the International Association for Counselling as a professional member.
She also holds an Advanced Certificate in Mental Health in the Community, UCC, and various workshops on Transcultural/Multicultural competencies, Addiction and Developmental Trauma, among others.
Eli’s desire to help people and her passion, interest, and curiosity to gain a deeper understanding of emotional distress and mental ill health-related challenges brought her to pursue a new career in counselling and psychotherapy.
She aims to build a good therapeutic relationship with the client; thus, Eli believes this therapeutic alliance is at the core of the healing journey. Clients’ well-being is Eli’s ultimate concern. Her therapy sessions are designed to strengthen their confidence self-knowledge and assist in their healing process. Eli’s goal is to empower clients to find solutions to their situations.
In her practice, her focus is on a holistic, body/mind integrative approach, working on the level of feelings, emotions, thinking, behaviours, cultural /social context and the environment;
Eli’s role is to listen, support, and perhaps help the client with theoretical insight to change what is possible or live more contentedly and creatively with what is not. She neither judges nor condones clients’ thoughts /feelings/behaviours.
As a trauma-informed therapist, Eli offers a safe space for clients to explore feelings, emotions or other past or present issues and integrate all the learnings to grow and move on in life. She is a true believer in the power of traumatic experiences as a personal resource in the healing process. In addition, Eli would use psychoeducation and share some neuroscience insights with clients when appropriate. She also brings dream work into the therapy work. Dreams can be a great source of personal insights.
