About me:

(PLEASE NOTE THIS PROFESSIONAL ONLY WORKS WITH UKRAINIAN CLIENTS)

Pavlo is a certified person-centered psychotherapist who has been practicing since 2009. He holds the status of a teaching co-therapist in UUAP (part of the European Association for Psychotherapy). He holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the Institute of Social and Political Psychology of NAPS of Ukraine. He also has a master's degree in psychology from the Open International University of Human Development "Ukraine".

Pavlo completely lost his eyesight at the age of 19 when he was a student of the Faculty of Psychology. He experienced bereavement, depression, and the subsequent existential crisis with the need to learn how to live again. He now enjoys a relationship with his wife and daughter, and the full life that’s possible as part of post-traumatic growth.

In the therapeutic process Pavlo tries to establish relationships that help clients become more aware and accepting of their self-experience. This is important because life's difficulties, distress, or trauma can temporarily deprive us of the ability to "hear ourselves." The psyche blocks those emotions, feelings or needs that allegedly contradict cultural expectations, the requirements of others, or our own ideas about ourselves. In order to avoid internal conflict, this experience is kept out of awareness. As a result, we stop taking care of ourselves properly, becoming confused about our true aspirations, desires, and authentic needs. Often this provokes the appearance of various symptoms.

Dealing with above client processes Pavlo relies on the core conditions of Person-Centered Therapy. This means that he tries to be holistic and open in his responses to what happens in interaction, pays attention to his deep experiences in order to empathically connect with the client, as well as to maintain a therapeutic process in a non-directive non-judgmental way. If these conditions are met, the client feels empathy and acceptance from the therapist. It gives the client an opportunity to accept the blocked experience, regaining integrity. In his work Pavlo also uses some concepts and techniques of Emotion-Focused Therapy.

Pavlo believes that each person has a powerful inner potential to understand and overcome their life difficulties, no matter how unbearable they may seem. In his opinion, an atmosphere of trust and security allows to create a relationship, in which it becomes possible to work with feelings that are difficult to touch in ordinary life. This is what helps to release the potential of a client and leads them to the experience of a fully functioning personality.

Since 2015 he is also certified to work with people experiencing the effects and trauma of war.
