About me:

Prior to qualifying as an art therapist, Selina’s background was in Social Care. Selina achieved a Fétac level 5 in Care of the Elderly in 2009. Went on to graduate in 2014 from the Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) with a BA ordinary degree in Applied Social Care (ASC) achieving a Distinction, further going on to graduate in 2015 with the BA (Hons) degree in the same, with a First. As a Social Care professional, Selina adheres to guidelines set out by CORU the statutory body guiding Health and Social Care Professionals. Selina subsequently went on to graduate from Crawford College (CCAD) in 2018 where she achieved MA in Art Therapy resulting in a First. Selina practices adhering to the guidelines of the Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists (IACAT), to which she is accredited. Selina is currently near completion of an Advanced Jungian Sandplay Therapy course (graduates Sept 2022) and will be seeking to join as a member of the Association for Jungian Sand Therapy Ireland (ASTI).

Through her qualifications, Selina has gained over ten years of experience (working: paid, voluntary, or through placements). Selina is privileged to say she has worked through the lifespan of ages from babies right up to older persons. Selina has worked with a selection of clients/sectors such as children, adolescents, adults, cancer support, intellectual disabilities, and addiction to name a few. Selina has also provided themed workshops for Children who Stutter, fourth-year Nursing and Midwifery, and Masters in Play Therapy students.

Such an experience has enabled Selina to truly understand that as human beings there is an innate need to be witnessed, heard, and accepted, through a safe, non-judgmental experience. Selina has experienced first-hand that behaviors do not and should not define the individual, and that when one understands the self with compassion, they can better understand their own behaviors and experiences.

Selina’s professional approach has always been underpinned by the humanist approach. As an Art Therapist Selina works in a way that enables the individual or group to guide the session themselves because it is through their process individually or collectively that each can learn to reflect, process, and reconnect with their innate self.
