Qualifications: Ronan holds a BA (1st class honours) degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS) and has also completed a BA (Level 7 degree) in Counselling Skills and Psychotherapy Studies through the same QQI accredited college.
Personal profile: Ronan trained in a range of different counselling approaches and has developed an integrative psychotherapy style to his practice which is grounded in a humanistic philosophy and always places the client at the centre of the work. His goal is always to empower each client to develop and grow their own sense of individuality in their world. Ronan works predominately from a person centred base, utilising the core conditions as a foundation to his approach while also integrating aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), family systems theory, transactional analysis, psycho-education, mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to best meet the needs of his clients.
Ronan is a fully insured pre-accredited member of the N.A.P.C.P. He has also completed training in motivational interviewing techniques and C.R.A. (Community Reinforcement Approach) and has experience of working in an addiction recovery and aftercare setting. In the past Ronan has worked as a counsellor with SOSAD who specialise in working with clients who present with symptoms of depression, anxiety and concerns around familial or personal relationships. Ronan is available to work with both adult clients and adolescent clients under 16 years old.
Ronan is a firm believer in therapy being a joint experience between the client and the therapist in which both parties are equal and work in a creative way to best understand the needs of the client. Ronan’s belief is that the therapeutic relationship is a key component in achieving growth and so this area is a main focus of all therapeutic work. This is true in both solution focussed brief therapy and in the more long term deep experiential work as mutual trust is an essential ingredient in the process of challenging ourselves to create the self-awareness which cultivates lasting change.
