Gordon is a highly experienced Psychotherapist and Counselor with experience spanning decades.
Gordon’s career started in Mental Health Nursing, specialising in mental health of young people where he pioneered holistic and innovative user-friendly developments. He was the first, and for many years the only Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) in the field of mental health in Ireland. Gordon received a Diploma in Counselling from Maynooth university in 1984. He is a trainer in Solution Focused Brief Therapy and is EMDR trained (specialised treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress problems). Gordon is also a qualified as a trainer in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (Cornell NY).
Gordon completed his MSc in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy at Trinity College Dublin in 2002 and moved away from Nursing to full-time psychotherapy & counselling. He uses a non-labeling approach that focuses on needs and strengths. He works with adolescents and adults and couples in brief and longer-term therapeutic engagement. Sometimes it is helpful to understand the whys and the reasons for how we are. Sometimes practical solution focused steps are more helpful. Gordon works with clients in the way that suits best.
Gordon also works with TENI (Transgender Equality Network Ireland) through facilitation of transgender support groups and other activities.
He is affiliated to IFCAPP (Irish Forum for Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy) / ICP (Irish Council for Psychotherapy). He is a member of ACAMH (Association for Child & Adolescent Mental Health), is former chair of the Irish branch and was the first Irish person to sit on the board of ACAMH in London.
