In working with Clients, Claire abides by the Core Conditions as set out by Carl Rogers in relation to the Person Centred Approach. These are Congruence, Empathy & Unconditional Positive Regard. Claire is also a Certified Energy Healer and sometimes draws on aspects of this to assist clients experiencing issues including Spirituality and Existential Anxiety. She also uses guided meditations to help with healing and reducing anxiety e.g. Body Scan & Blue Flame Meditation. (Clients report finding these very beneficial).
At MyMind, Claire provides a Safe and Confidential space for clients to share their stories and identify areas of their life that need to be explored and addressed so that they can move forward and begin to live their lives authentically. As they continue to engage with the therapist, they find the courage to make positive change and learn to be true to themselves. They discover an inner resilience they never knew existed inside of them and this in turn gives them confidence and courage to enable positive change. Occasionally, Clare employs concepts from other counselling approaches including CBT, and Gestalt to encourage this positive change and growth. Claire strongly believes that every person has a right to affordable and easily accessible counselling. She is a fully accredited Counsellor and abides by the Code of Ethics as laid down by both MyMind and APCP her Accrediting Body. APCP MEMBERSHIP – MBR10168-P0714
Since 2011 Claire has been working with Clients and supporting them through a variety of issues, mainly Grief & Loss, Stress & Anxiety, Relationship problems, Depression, low Self Esteem/ Self Confidence and sense of Self-Worth. She has previous worked with Compass Counsel & Befriending Ennis Co Clare and Slainte An Chlar Cancer Support Centre Kilnamona Ennis Co Clare. Claire also works in private practice in Killarney Co Kerry.
Her interest in Therapy was ignited in the mid 80s following a difficult journey through Post Natal Illness and receiving great support from a UK based PND support group. She wanted to ‘give back’ to other post natally depressed mothers what had been given to her. From 1990 -1993 she volunteered with PNDAI a Dublin based support group and set up a pen pal support group so that mother living in rural areas had equal access to support should they require same. As there was a huge stigma attached to PND at the time she also believed mothers might be more comfortable seeking support from the privacy of their home. Following the untimely death of her youngest child in 2004, Claire found herself once again wishing to ‘give back’ what had been given to her as she worked through her Grief. In 2007 she completed a Counselling Skills course with ICHAS and subsequently completed a Level 8 Hons Degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy with ICHAS. Since 2016 she has worked with MyMind Limerick and her speciality lies in Bereavement, Grief & Loss.
Claire believes that counselling is necessary for many individuals to help them make positive change in their lives. Sometimes the wounds are so deep that simply ‘chatting’ to a good friend is not enough. Counsellors are trained to listen, be fully present, be non-judgemental and provide a safe and confidential space for the client to experience healing and the ability to move forward and make positive changes in their lives. No man is an island. Nobody needs to suffer alone. MyMind provides all of the above. Claire is proud to be a member of the MyMind Team.
Outside of work, Claire enjoys Walking, Hill Walking, Reading, Nature, attending various workshops including Shaman Healing, Mindfulness & Meditation, Ceremonial Fires. She also enjoys meeting friends for coffee & chats, Voluntary Work, Socialising. Recently she faced a life long fear of horse riding and went pony trekking with a friend as part of a birthday celebration.
